Battery storage (BESS)

Battery energy storage (BESS) electrical design

Battery storage balances the grid, supports solar power and secures critical loads. I design BESS electrical connections to be safe and clearly documented.

Design scope

  • Battery and inverter electrical connections
  • Protection, isolation and short-circuit studies
  • Earthing and equipotential bonding design
  • Metering and auxiliary power systems
  • Interfaces to solar PV and building distribution
  • Grid connection documentation for the network operator

Deliverables

  • Single-line diagram and protection description
  • Switchboard and circuit diagrams
  • Earthing plan
  • Technical attachments for the connection application

Why now

The need for flexible capacity is growing in Finland as wind and solar expand, and battery storage is being built rapidly – both as standalone projects and alongside solar plants and data centres.

TechDocuments

Human to human, with modern tools

You work directly with the designer. Everything is produced with current design software as digital documentation, with standards and network operator requirements in mind.

Frequently asked questions

What does BESS electrical design include?

Typically the battery system and inverter connections, protection and isolation, earthing, metering, auxiliary supplies, and the diagrams and descriptions needed for the grid connection. Scope is always agreed according to project size and connection type.

Do you prepare grid connection documents for solar PV plants?

Yes. I prepare electrical designs for solar PV systems and the documents the network operator requires for connection, such as the single-line diagram and protection description – from small-scale generation up to industrial rooftops and ground-mounted plants.

Can solar PV, battery storage and a data centre share one site?

Yes, and such co-located projects are becoming more common in Finland. A shared connection needs careful overall design: power allocation, protection, metering and control. I help outline the electrical concept early in the project.
